Title: An evaluation of student satisfaction of the joint master programs at Foreign Tra University in Vietnam
Authors: Chen, Pi-Yun; Bui, Manh Cuong
Abstract: Globalization has become increasingly popular. Nevertheless, education in Vietnam has lagged behind developed countries. Thus, one of main reasons for Vietnam to engage in international collaboration is to improve training quality and enrich the human resource for economic development. This study aims to assess joint master programs at the Faculty of International Education at Foreign Trade University based on the overall student satisfaction. The SSI model developed by Temizer and Turkyilmaz (2012) to measure student satisfaction at private university is applied in the research. The data of this research are analyzed by the SPSS 20.0 software. The online questionnaires in the research are used for collecting opinions of joint master students at the Faculty of International Education at Foreign Trade University. From the analysis of 237 respondents, the results show that image (IM), perceived value (PV), perceived quality (PQ), and student expectation (EXP) impact on student satisfaction, in which perceived value and image mostly affected the overall satisfaction of students coming from joint master programs at Foreign Trade University.

The impacts of consumer value and brand indentification on brand loyalty and electronic word of mouth: The case of smartphones market in Ho Chi Minh City

Title: The impacts of consumer value and brand indentification on brand loyalty and electronic word of mouth: The case of smartphones market in Ho Chi Minh City
Authors: Tran, The Nam; Tieu, Van Trang
Abstract: Finding out the antecedents of brand loyalty is an interesting topic. The paper’s target is answering the question “Do consumer value and consumer-brand identification lead to consumer’s loyalty with the brand and positive electronic word of mouth in the context of smartphone market in Ho Chi Minh City?”. The authors used the PLS-SEM (Partial least squares structural equation modeling) to verify the relationship between independent variables and dependent variables using data collected from 320 smartphone users. The study shows that proposed antecedents have influences on dependent constructs. Such discoveries have both theoretical and practical implications. In theory, they support the theory of consumer value and the approach of brand identification. In practice, smartphone producers should provide gadgets with excellent performance and unique identity to keep consumers’ loyalty. As a result, companies will have active ambassadors for their brand.

Who participates in free business training? The case of Vietnamese SMEs

Title: Who participates in free business training? The case of Vietnamese SMEs
Authors: Higuchi, Yuki
Abstract: Effective government programmes should be taken up by their potential beneficiaries. This study investigates the factors associated with the decision of Vietnamese small business owners to participate in free business training programmes. Based on the original survey data, I find that most business owners were unaware of the importance of learning business, and thus, did not take up the training offer. The regression analysis, using bivariate probit model, shows that the risk-taking owners and owners with their relatives also invited to the same training were more likely to participate in the training. These findings suggest that providing ex-ante information about the usefulness of the training and allowing group participation can encourage training participation.

The impact of financial openness on the earnings of self-employed workers - an empirical evidence from a panel dataset

Title: The impact of financial openness on the earnings of self-employed workers - an empirical evidence from a panel dataset
Authors: Le, Thi Thu Huong; Bui, Thi Ly; Nguyen, Huyen Minh
Abstract: This paper contributes to the literature on the effect of financial openness by investigating the factors and determinants which drive the income share to self-employed labor during financial liberalization. The question of the precise impact of liberalization on the share of the self-employed has received less attention in the literature. The authors use a de jure or a rule-based indicator as a measure of capital account openness. The empirical work is applied for a panel dataset of 30 countries during the period of 1970 - 2015. The results from all specifications support the hypothesis that financial integration leads to an increase in the unemployment rate as well as in the income share of self-employed. Nevertheless, the positive relation between financial openness and self-employed income is not evident when we focus solely on developed countries.
