dc.description.abstract"Author J.K Rowling was not highly appreciated until Harry Potter was published and decades later, Harry Potter is still among the best-selling works of all time and has also been translated into 67 other languages. This thesis aims to compare the cohesive devices used in the original English version of J.K. Rowling's novel ""Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"" and its Vietnamese translation. The study focuses on examining how linking tools such as references, ellipsis, substitutions, conjunctions, etc… contribute to the coherence and cohesion of the text in both language versions. Through the definitions and concepts of conjunctions in English and Vietnamese by (Halliday & Hasan, 1976) and (Diệp Quang Ban 1998), collecting a corpus of the original English text of ""Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"" and its Vietnamese translation version, analyzing the cohesive devices used in both, comparing and contrasting the use of these cohesive devices in the two versions, the study seeks to elucidate the challenges and strategies related to translating linking elements between English and Vietnamese. Through qualitative analysis of selected passages in the novel as well as the synthesized cohesive devices data, this study seeks to provide insights into the linguistic and cultural differences influencing the translation process such as grammar variations, translation styles… and the impact of these variations on the overall reading experience of the target audience. The findings of this research will contribute to the fields of translation studies, contrastive linguistics, and literary analysis, offering valuable insights for translators, linguists, and scholars interested in the complexities of translating cohesive devices in literary texts"vi_VN
