Abstract: Four new complexes of transition metals CuL₂, Ni₂L₂ (-Cl)₂, Cu₂(LH) 2P(Ph)₃(H₂O)(4-Cl)₂, [NI(LH)P(Ph)₃ Cl₂ (H₂O)] H₂O, based on the ligand [2- (benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)phenol] (L) were synthesized and characterized by FTIR, NMR (¹H,¹³, ³¹C, ³¹P), ESI-MS and UV-visible spectroscopy. Spectral data show that the Cul₂ complex has a distorted square geometry, octahedral for the Cu₂(LH)2P(Ph)₃(H₂O) (µ-Cl)₂ [Ni(LH)P(Ph)₃Cl₂(H₂O)]H₂O complexes and tetrahedral for the Ni₂L₂(µ-Cl)₂ complex. Remarkable antioxidant and antibacterial activity against four strains for the complexes and ligand L was investigated. Cytotoxicity study was made on the germination of Lepidium sativum seeds, and on the behavior of erythrocytes and leukocyte nuclei. All synthesized products showed no hemolytic and genotoxic effects on erythrocytes and leukocyte nuclei, respectively. The results of the present study indicate that the synthesized ligand and its complexes tested are safe to human blood cells, and they might be used as active agents for pre-clinical trials.
