Abstract: The water stability performance of asphalt mixtures is an important index to evaluate the quality of asphalt mixtures. In this article, the authors aim at evaluating the water stability performance of the modified asphalt mixtures with two distinct types of additives (TPS and AP-8). By using three different amounts of each type of additive, the authors create six samples of the modified asphalt mixture and one sample of the base asphalt mixture. The water stability index of the seven asphalt mixture samples was measured using the immersion Marshall test method both before and after immersion. The author analyzes and evaluates the influence of each additives composition on the water stability of the modified asphalt mixtures, in comparison to the base asphalt mixture. The research results demonstrate that the modified asphalt mixture, which incorporates TPS and AP-8 additives, effectively enhances the water stability performance. With the amount of AP-8 additive ranging from 0.2% to 0.4%, the residual stability (MSO) of the asphalt mixture increases by about 2.2% to 3.6% compared with the base asphalt mixture. The asphalt combinations residual stability MS was about 3.0% higher than the base asphalt mixture at the value of IPS additive content of 0.7%. The research proposes that 0.5% for TPS additive content or 0.3% for AP-8 additive is reasonable content to improve asphalt mixture water stability.
