Abstract: | Vocabulary plays a pivotal role in foreign language learning. However, many EFL learners may encounter difficulties with retention and interest. In recent years, gamification has been deemed effective in enhancing EFL learners' vocabulary knowledge. This study aimed to explore students’ perspectives on the impact of using game-based vocabulary learning on students’ motivation, and engagement. A total of 115 English major participants at Can Tho University participated in this study to fill out a survey questionnaire, assessing three aspects: vocabulary learning, motivation, and engagement. The questionnaire data indicated positive attitudes toward the use of gamification in learning vocabulary. Most participants demonstrated their enthusiasm and active engagement in learning compared to traditional methods. Conversely, some challenges regarding suitability, feasibility, and long-term effectiveness were noted. Despite these limitations, gamification proved to be an innovative and effective approach to developing lexical competence among EFL learners. These results emphasize the potential benefits of incorporating gamification in EFL vocabulary achievement. Further research is recommended to examine the long-term effects of game-based learning and its application across different learner demographics. |
