Abstract: "Developing English speaking skills is crucial for English-majored students, yet many face psychological barriers that hinder their progress. This study aimed to investigate the psychological obstacles affecting English majors at Can Tho University, particularly fear of making mistakes, anxiety, and low self-confidence. Additionally, the study examined the influence of teachers' and peers' opinions on students' confidence, motivation, and willingness to participate in speaking activities. A qualitative case study approach was employed to gain in-depth insights into students’ experiences. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 20 purposely sampled English-majored final-year students at Can Tho University. Thematic analysis was used to identify key patterns in students’ perceptions of psychological barriers and the role of external feedback. The findings revealed that while teacher and peer feedback can serve as motivation, it may also reinforce anxiety and hesitation in speaking. The study concluded that addressing psychological barriers and fostering a supportive learning environment are essential for improving students’ speaking proficiency. The researchers hope that educators will implement more student-centered strategies to help learners overcome these challenges and enhance their speaking skills effectively. "
