Abstract: This study evaluates the use of cement to improve riverbed soil for road embankments. Riverbed soil, though abundant, exhibits low strength and high swelling potential. Cement was added at 3%, 5%, and 10% by weight. Results showed that cement significantly reduced swell potential from 4.4% (untreated) to 1.78% (10% cement) and accelerated swelling equilibrium. Additionally, the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) improved markedly, increasing up to 3.78 times at 10% cement. The most substantial CBR gain occurred between 3% and 5% cement, with diminishing returns thereafter. The improvements are attributed to pozzolanic and hydration reactions enhancing soil bonding.
