Abstract: | Landslides are a major natural hazard in mountainous areas where steep slopes, heavy rainfall, and unstable geological conditions frequently trigger destructive ground movements. This study assessed landslide hazards in Tia Dinh commune, Dien Bien province, Vietnam, using the LS-RAPID model to simulate and predict potential risks. Field surveys, geophysical investigations, and extreme-case scenario simulations identified three high risk zones (S1, S2, S3) and a larger zone (S) with the most severe hazard potential due to rapid mass displacement. Despite limited geotechnical data, the LS-RAPID model effectively predicted movement patterns, velocities, and impact zones. Findings highlight the importance of incorporating landslide risk assessment into local land use planning, supported by groundwater monitoring and early warning systems. This research provides a framework for proactive disaster preparedness and risk management in landslide prone regions. |
