In the current digital entertainment landscape, the demand for simple yet challenging games continues to grow steadily. Among various genres, 2D platformer games remain highly appealing due to their accessible mechanics combined with skill-based challenges. This thesis, Building Pixel Adventure: A 2D Side-Scrolling Platformer Game presents the design and development of a pixel-art platformer while serving as a practical study in game programming. The game allows players to control a character through multiple levels of increasing difficulty, utilizing core mechanics such as movement, jumping, obstacle avoidance, ability usage, and item collection through an interactive chest system. From a technical perspective, the thesis implements smooth character control, basic physics simulation, room-based level design, and various interactive gameplay elements using the Unity game engine. The results demonstrate that a well-designed 2D platformer can deliver engaging gameplay without complex control schemes, making it accessible to a wide range of players. Furthermore, this thesis highlights the potential for future development and expansion of locally produced games within the Vietnamese game industry.vi_VN
