The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) brings many conveniences but also increases the risk of cyberattacks due to the limitedresourcesand high exploitability of IoT devices. Therefore, building an effective intrusiondetection system (IDS) is an urgent issue. In this thesis, deep learningmodelsincluding RNN, LSTM, CNN-LSTM, DNN, FT-Transformer, and the hybridCNN-BiLSTM-Transformer model, along with the machine learning model XGBoost, areproposed and evaluated on the Gotham 2025 dataset to detect and classifyvarioustypes of IoT attacks. Experimental results show that before applying Feature Enhancement (FE), themodels achieved accuracies ranging from 97% to 98%, with XGBoost standingout at99.61% due to its ability to handle imbalanced data effectively. However, deeplearning models still exhibited confusion between certain classes, especiallyBruteForce and Network Scanning. After applying FE, the performance of all modelsimproved significantly, achieving accuracies from 99.5%to nearly 99.9%, whilesubstantially reducing class confusion. XGBoost continued to lead with anaccuracy of 99.97%, but deep learning models such as LSTM and DNNalso achievedhighlycompetitive results (over 99.9%) with optimized computational costs. It can be concluded that Feature Enhancement plays a crucial role inenhancingIDS performance. When data is well-represented, simple models like DNNorXGBoost can still achieve high performance, reducing computational costs andbeingmore suitable for real-world deployment.
