| Abstract: | "This study investigates the influence of reading habits on grammar skills among English Studies students at the School of Foreign Languages, Can Tho University (CTU). Reading habits are examined through four dimensions: reading attitude, reading frequency, reading materials, and reading purposes, while grammar skills are analyzed in terms of grammar accuracy and grammar comprehension. Employing a quantitative survey design, data were collected from 100 undergraduate English-major students across different academic years using a structured questionnaire. The reliability of the instrument was confirmed with a high Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. The findings reveal that students generally hold positive attitudes toward reading in English; however, their actual reading frequency remains moderate. Learners tend to prefer familiar, accessible, and short reading materials, with digital texts being the most common choice, and their reading purposes are primarily academic rather than recreational. Grammar skills were found to be at a moderate level, with students demonstrating greater confidence in basic grammatical comprehension than in handling complex sentence structures. Importantly, the results indicate a positive relationship between reading habits and grammar skills, suggesting that students who engage more regularly and purposefully in reading tend to demonstrate higher levels of grammar accuracy and comprehension. The study highlights the pedagogical value of encouraging regular and diversified reading practices as part of English language learning. Recommendations include integrating structured reading activities, expanding access to appropriate reading materials, and incorporating grammar-focused reading strategies to support students’ grammatical awareness and overall English language proficiency." |
