| Abstract: | "This study investigates English majors’ perceptions of using ChatGPT to support the preparation of oral presentations at Can Tho University. The research focuses on three main areas: the perceived benefits, challenges, and ethical considerations associated with the use of ChatGPT. A mixed-methods approach was employed, consisting of a questionnaire administered to 100 students and semi-structured interviews with six participants. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and reliability testing, while qualitative responses were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that students generally hold positive perceptions of the benefits of ChatGPT, particularly in idea generation, content organization, and language improvement. However, several challenges were also identified, including inaccurate or overly general information, unnatural phrasing, and concerns about dependency on AI tools. Ethical considerations emerged as the highest-rated theme, with students demonstrating strong awareness of academic integrity, fairness, and responsible use of AI. The study concludes that while ChatGPT can effectively support students during the planning and drafting stages of presentation preparation, critical evaluation and guided use are necessary to avoid overreliance and ensure ethical learning practices. Implications and recommendations are offered for students, teachers, and institutions to enhance AI literacy in higher education." |
