| Tóm tắt: | "Set against the backdrop of Afghanistan’s volatile sociopolitical history, Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns exposes the double colonization faced by women, who are simultaneously oppressed by imperialist conflict and patriarchal tyranny. This thesis challenges the prevalent Western-centric perception of Afghan women as monolithic, passive victims. The primary objective of this study is to investigate how the female protagonists, Mariam and Laila, negotiate their agency through three interlocking indigenous mechanisms of agency. The study employs close textual analysis grounded in a Postcolonial Feminist framework to interpret these mechanisms within the constraints of victimhood. The findings reveal that agency for Afghan women in postcolonial contexts is not necessarily manifested through overt rebellion. First, internal agency is manifested through the indigenous practice of tahamul (endurance), which is reconfigured from passive suffering into an active cultivation of ethical selfhood. Second, relational agency is forged through the dynamics of sisterhood and allomothering, transforming the domestic sphere into a site of collective survival. Third, discursive agency is asserted through storytelling and counter-narratives, allowing the characters to reclaim epistemic authority against historical erasure. By illuminating these indigenous modes of survival, the thesis positions the novel as a profound testament to the resilient reconfiguration of agency rather than a mere record of victimization. In doing so, this research contributes to the discourse on subaltern studies by validating subtle, non-confrontational forms of resistance, while simultaneously offering a literary critique of the global politics of indifference regarding the Afghan crisis." |
