Abstract: This study reported the influence of oxidizer-fuel content and particle size of the fuel on combustion characteristics of the whistling mixture based on potassium perchlorate and sodium benzoate such as heat of explosion, the specific volume of gaseous products, burning rate and intensity of whistling sound. From the analysis of theoretical prediction and experimental data, we selected an appropriate ingredient and particle sizes of components in order to archive the optimal intensity of the whistle. The whistling pyrotechnic has a relatively low sensitivity to friction and could be safely used for several military and civilian applications.
