Abstract: Swelling clav soil used to fill at core of soil dam used to waterproof for soil dam will swell and increase volume when soaked. This expansion status created the expansion pressure inside dam, increased volume of dam and harm the construction. It need a cover soil to balance and keep the volume of core from expansion due to swell, make soi] swelled in cover pressure condition, unchanged soil volume, reduce pore inside soil and permeability coefficient. Swelling pressure reduced pore water pressure and saturated water curve. When swelling finished, permeability coefficient reduced and saturated water curve inside dam raised up, it made pressure to the stability of dam.
