Oral acute toxicity and antithrombotic effect of the ethanol extracts from Dracaena cambodiana Pierre ex. Gagnep (DC extract) were estimated in mice with pulmonary thrombosis induced by 600 mg/kg collagen and 0.5 mg/kg epinephrine. The extracts showed no acute toxicity in mice at the oral dose of 2 g/kg BW (equivalent to 15.92 g dry plant material/kg BW). At the dose of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg, the extracts resulted in a significant increase in bleeding time and clearly protected mice from such experimental pulmonary embolism after an oral administration course of 7 successive days. The dose of 100 mg/kg proved the same antithrombotic effect as did 5 mg/kg aspirin. And noteworthy, less powerful was the higher dose of 200 mg/kg. These suggested the use of DC extracts for thrombosis prevention and treatment.vi_VN
