dc.description.abstractFor evaluation of thrombocytositic effects of the aqueous leaf extracts from Carica papaya L., an experimental protocol of inducing thrombocytopenia by cyclophosphamide (CPA) was established. In consideration of the toxicity and thrombocytopenic response in rats using different doses of CPA, the dose regimen of 25 mg/kg b.w given by subcutaneous injection once daily for 3 consecutive days was selected for the main study. The plant extracts at oral doses of 800 and 1600 mg/kg for 1 days increased the platelet count compared to the control group However, statistically significant differences were only observed with the latter doses. Additionally, both dose regimens showed no effect on other hematological parameters but substantially shortened the clotting time of CPA-treated rats. These findings demonstrated for the first time that the extracts of Carica papaya L leaves of Vietnam possessed the anti-thrombocytopenic effect. Further studies should be performed to identify active compounds and illuminate the mechanisms related to this pharmacological effect.vi_VN
