Abstract: | A Japanese legend has it that the sixth emperor, Ko An, some 300 to 400 years before our era, created a post of head of the Department of Lacquer, with taxes in the countryside payable in lacquer - while the Chinese trace the use of lacquer back to a much more distant time in their own country. Although it is difficult to say to whom, Japan or China, it is honored to have discovered the remarkable properties of the lacquer tree, it seems that the lacquer tree is not from Japan, but from China. |
