Overview of JIRCAS’s research structure

Abstract

The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) was first established in 1970 as the Tropical Agriculture Research Center (TARC), one of the research institutes of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Japan. TARC was reorganized into JIRCAS in 1993. On April 1, 2001, JIRCAS became an Incorporated Administrative Agency (IAA) under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), in accordance with the administrative reforms of the Government of Japan to facilitate the reorganization of national government-affiliated research organizations.
