Study on reproductive cycle of abalone (Haliotis asiana) in Nam Du, Kien Giang

Abstract

The reproductive cycle of Haliotis asinina in Nam Du, Kien Giang province was studied from September 2017 to August 2018. The sexual ratio (male: female) was approximately 1:1. The average shell length of male (68.62±10.45 mm) was lower than females (71.77±10.65 mm) and the total weight of males (68.64±31.13 g) was also lower than females (76.15±31.74 g).Based on histological observation and gonad index, the results showed that abalone Haliotis asinina has spawned throughout the year and has two mainly spawning period from February to April and August. Egg diameter reached maximum size occurred in February (120.04±33.44 µm) and August (119.89±29.65 µm).
