Abstract: | The experiment was conducted with 6 treatments, in which fives were discharged water from intensive shrimp growout (effluent water) and a blank treatment (seawater) were used as culture medium for rearing Artemia biomass. In five effluent water treatments, Artemia formulated feed were provided with a ratio of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% daily feeding diet and the blank treatment also was given full diet (100%), Each treatment had three replicates. The aim of this study was assessed the ability to use shrimp discharge for Artemia biomass culture, as well as the effect of its on survival, growth and reproduction of Artemia. Artemia was cultured in 1.5L plastic bottles, contained 1L culture medium with a density of 300 nauplii/L, salinity 30 ppt and lasted for 7 weeks. In the first two days after stocking, Artemia was fed with fresh Chaetoceros sp. and then Artemia were fed with formulated feed following the experiment treatments. The results showed that when using the effluent water as culture medium, the more food was given, the better in survival, growth, biomass and reproduction of Artemia was obtained (p<0.05). There was no difference in survival (85-91% versus 85-94%); reproduction and biomass at harvest (1.51g/L vs. 1.59 g/L) between the two treatments with full diet, however, there was a difference compare to the treatments of 25% of diet (p>0.05) but not for growth (2.54-5.01mm vs. 2.79- 5.77mm; p<0.05) after 7 and 14 days of culture. These results indicated that the shrimp discharge water can be used to culture Artemia biomass but feeding need to involve. |
