Abstract: The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of different C:N ratios on water quality, growth performance, survival rate of white leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) and production of water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) in the aquaponic recirculating systems. The study was conducted with 4 different treatments (T), with 3 replications of C:N = 10:1 (T1), C:N = 15:1 (T2), C:N = 20:1 (T3) and C:N=25:1 (T4). The same density of water spinach 100 cup/m2, vegetable area is 1m2/T. Initial average weight of 1.5g/shrimp were cultured in a 350 L composite tank at salinity of 5‰. Experimental duration was last for 60 days/2 vegetable cycles. Experimental duration was last for 60 days/2 vegetable cycles. The results showed that water physical parameters of temperature, pH and DO levels were in suitable conditions for normal growth of shrimp and vegetables. On the other hand, there was significantly difference in NO2-N and PO43- levels among treatments; the highest PO43- (11.44±2.22) was in treatment 4 and the lowest (8.41±1.27) was in treatment 2. Besides that, there was no statistically difference between treatments in TAN and NO3-N levels. In all treatments, TAN and NO3-N were suitable for shrimp and vegetable developing. Statistical analysis showed that there was significant difference (p<0.05) in weight gain and survival rate among treatments. However, it can be seen that the treatment 1 got highest survival rate (87.15±3.03 %) and yield (3.70±0.23 kg/m2). Otherwise, the treatment 4 achieved the lowest survival (48.21±2.52 %) and weight gain (5.66±0.18 g). Yield of vegetables in all treatments were relatively high. The highest yield was found in the T2 (4.28 kg/m2) and there was no significantly difference among treatments (p>0.05). In general, the treatment with C:N = 10:1 would be recommended for aquaponic circulation system with water spinach.
