dc.description.abstractBenzimidazole sulfonamides were synthesized by combination of two pharmacologically compatible moieties into a single molecule by attaching a sulfonamide moiety to a benzimidazole frame. Their structures are confirmed by 1H-NMR-spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Of the 8 synthesized compounds, 7 (5a-7a, 4b-7b) were novel benzimidazole sulfonamides. The antibacterial activities of all the 8 synthesized compounds (4a-7a, 4b-7b) against standard strains of 5 Gram positive and 5 Gram negative bacteria were tested at 500 pg/mL by disk diffusion method. Of these, two sulfonamides (4a, 7b) showed promising antibacterial activity against both types of the tested bacteria.vi_VN
