Abstract: A study on fishes species composition, and growth biology characteristics of spotted catfish (Arius maculatus) was done from June to October 2018 in Tran De district, Soc Trang province. Fish composition and spotted catfish sample were collected mainly by trawl-net, and bag-net. The samples were collected one time a month. Results showed that there were 51 species of 22 families, 10 orders. In there, the Perciformes dominates with 23 species (45.1%), the following is Clupeiformes with 9 species (17.65%), Pleuronectiformes and Siluriformes with 2 species (9.8%) per order, and the rest accounted for the total proportion (27.45%). By nonlinear regression method determined the closed relationship between length (L) and weight (W) of through the equation of the correlation length (L) and weight some species have economic value: spotted catfish which is W=0.0075L3.0665, R2=0.963. for the growth curve maximum asymptotic length L∞=20cm, growth rate K= 0.10/year, the condition factor is from (0.00748±00015) to (0.0078±0.0012). In general, fish species composition in My Thanh river diverse, growth biology characteristic of fish develops naturally.
