There were 261 students, from many majors and different cohorts of Can Tho University participating in the survey. A five Likert scale questionnaire was used as the main tool to collect data which were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings show that (1) Students in general have an understanding of personal space and have appropriate manners when communicating, (2) Number of students have no understanding of the given statements about personal space in America is much higher than in Vietnam, this difference is mainly caused by cultural differences, and (3) There is still a part of students who have misconceptions and misunderstandings about personal space in terms of communication. The study gives a concrete look at students' understanding of personal space.
